MS Nordstjernen is named after the North Star or Stella Polaris famed for helping sailors navigate for centuries. The ship is beautifully appointed in old, rich wood with brass fittings and original artworks, features remaining from its original 1956 construction.
Extensively modernised in 2013, MS Nordstjernen is a comfortable shop from which to explore Spitsbergen and the Svalbard Archipelago.
An aura of maritime charm
MS Nordstjernen is a unique ship that combines its old world charm with modern fittings designed exclusively for Arctic sailing. She is equipped with a dining room, a bar, a cafe, a panoramic lounge and a library.
The outdoor deck allows guests to get close to the untouched nature, even in inclement weather, with a roof protecting part of the deck. With original and incorporated classic wooden surfaces, the cosy interior and exterior cabins have a lovely ambience to them.
Aboard the MS Nordstjernen there is an emphasis on exploration and discovery, as with all ships in the Hurtigruten fleet. Hurtigruten offer guests the chance to participate in daily landings with the Expedition Team and get amongst the nature they are observing.
MS Nordstjernen core crew specialises in the waters around Spitsbergen and the Svalbard Archipelago. The Svalbard archipelago is home to over 3,500 polar bears and fewer people and 60% of it is covered in glaciers.
The Huritgruten team are experts in this wildly untamed area and can lead guests on the best route through this very unique remote part of the world.
