Hurtigruten's aim is to give you a holiday with a difference – not just a cruise experience but a true sea voyage.
Just like the pioneering explorers who have come before them, Hurtigruten want all of their guests to have a chance to document the wonders that they see along the way. Many ships in the fleet have not only professional photographers onboard, but have Media and Optics Centres, where guests can develop their photographs to document an epic sea journey.
During Expedition voyages, a devoted team of photographers will record the days adventures and this will be broadcast in the Media Centre at the end of each day. At the end of every journey, these images are collated and curated, ready for guests to view or download as a wonderful momento of their time away.
There are also programs for those who would like to spend more time behind the lens, learning the tricks of the trade. Currently on all MS Midnatsol voyages to Antarctica, Hurtigruten are offering a complimentary photography and digital media program, with onboard workshops in the Optics Centre. This program caters for all ages (even our Younger Explorers!) and skill levels and will focus on capturing nature in its purest form .
Hurtigruten have partnered with one of the world's best nature and wildlife photographers from Stranvanger Foto, one of Norway's largest photography vendors, to tailor make workshops specifically for the environment guests are cruising through. These complimentary workshops include tutorials on still and video photography; tips for handling cameras in extreme conditions; and even a field trip ashore for an introduction to wildlife photography. These student photos will be included in the Media Centre presentation so that everyone aboard can revisit the epic adventure for years to come.
As always, Hurtigruten wants to leave the gentlest footstep possible, so all the workshops focus on how to capture incredible images while preserving the pristine environments.
The Photography and Optics Centres are not only available on the MS Midnatsol, but also on Hurtigruten's other explorer vessels. And of course, there are plenty of opportunities to capture some magnificent sights on the Classic Coastal Route, from whales, to fjords, to the Northern Lights up north. Many past guests have taken some of the best photos of their lives aboard a Hurtigruten ship – not just because of the unrivalled landscapes and nature, but also thanks to the Hurtigruten crew's specialist knowledge and advice.
